MANILA - Candidates should start appealing to the emotions of voters with just 3 weeks left until the midterm elections, a political campaign strategist said.

They should also focus on "sway votes" that can still be persuaded to their side rather than "stray votes" which pertain to the populace that definitely won't, said strategist Alan German.

"There’s a famous saying in political campaign strategy, wherein the only way to win an election in the Philippines is to make them laugh and to make them cry," he told ANC's Early Edition.

The candidates should have laid down their platform, "an honest to goodness idea" what the voters can expect from them, in the earlier months of the campaign, said German, whose clients include local and national aspirants.

Filipinos will troop to polling precincts on May 13 for the elections, when they are expected to vote for 12 senators and their respective local officials.
