MANILA, Philippines -- Barangay Ginebra ended NorthPort's winning streak in smashing fashion, claiming a 113-88 triumph in Game 2 of their semifinal series in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup, Monday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Batang Pier entered Game 2 with a five-game winning streak, the most recent of which was a 124-90 demolition of the Gin Kings in last Saturday's semis opener.
Ginebra had no intentions of falling behind 0-2 in the best-of-5 series, however. They outscored NorthPort 31-18 in the first frame, with Scottie Thompson's three-pointer fueling a 13-2 run that allowed the Gin Kings to gain separation.
They never let up from there. Ginebra led by as much as 29 points in the second quarter, 56-27, off a Greg Slaughter layup, and then posted a 33-point advantage halfway through the third period after Aljon Mariano made it 85-52.
Stanley Pringle led Ginebra with 23 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting clip, along with 5 assists. LA Tenorio had 20 points, while Greg Slaughter produced 16 points and 9 rebounds. Justin Brownlee had a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards.
Ginebra, as a team, shot 51% from the field, including a blistering 14-of-27 clip from beyond the arc.
Import Michael Qualls was limited to 20 points on 8-of-26 shooting. Sean Anthony put up 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Christian Standhardinger had just 10 points and six boards.
The series is now tied at one game apiece, with Game 3 set for Wednesday, December 18 at the Big Dome.
