Without Helterbrand, practice feels 'weird' for Caguioa
Barangay Ginebra has already won back-to-back PBA Governors’ Cup titles.
Now Mark Caguioa thinks it’s time for the Gin Kings to take things to the next level. For him, that means winning the all-Filipino crown, also known as the Philippine Cup
“We won the last conference, we won with imports,” he said during a thanksgiving party hosted by Ginebra for its fans at FilOil Arena in San Juan on Friday.
“Para sa akin naman, we should win the all-Filipino just to show we could do it without an import, na kaya naming mag-champion. That's my main goal for the team.
“And I think we could do it.”
Ginebra returned to practice on Thursday after a month-long break following its successful Governors’ Cup campaign.
This time, however, Caguioa practiced without long-time hardcourt partner Jayjay Helterbrand, who called it quits after 17 years in the league.
So how does the “Furious” feel playing without that “Fast?”
“To tell you the truth it's a little bit weird,” he said.
“For 17 years we've been practicing together and he's always there. And yesterday it's the first time he's not there.”
“It's a little bit weird but I got these guys, Kevin (Ferrer), Paolo (Taha), they all trying to comfort me and stop me from thinking he’s not around.”
