MANILA, Philippines – TNT guard Roger Pogoy will not be able to play for Gilas Pilipinas in the 30th Southeast Asian Games after suffering a back injury in their game against Magnolia last Monday.
Pogoy had to be helped off the court in the closing stretch of the KaTropa's quarterfinal game against the Hotshots, and was visibly in pain as he received treatment along the sidelines.
TNT went on to win the game, 98-97, to advance to the semifinals of the PBA Governors' Cup.
Gilas Pilipinas and TNT team manager Gabby Cui confirmed to ABS-CBN News on Wednesday that MRI results showed Pogoy has a disc bulge at his lumbosacral joint, causing nerve root irritation.
"He was advised by doctors to completely rest for a week," said Cui. "He won't be able to play for Gilas."
"Coach Tim (Cone) will choose from the pool on who will replace (Pogoy)," he added.
Pogoy had 8 points and 7 rebounds in TNT's win before exiting the game with under a minute left.
