PBA: San Miguel escapes Blackwater, snaps 2-game skid

MANILA—San Miguel Beer outlasted gritty Blackwater with a 99-96 overtime win in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup at Cuneta Astrodome on Wednesday.

Despite squandering their advantage in the fourth quarter, the Beermen managed to gut out the victory and break out of a two-game funk.

Without injured import Dez Wells, June Mar Fajardo took charge of an all-Filipino San Miguel squad with 30 points and 13 rebounds.

Terrence Romeo added 20 points, while Arwind Santos contributed 13.

Mac Belo paced the Elite with 25 points. Import Marqus Blakely added 24 points and 18 rebounds, but was ejected from the game after incurring his sixth foul.

The Beermen now have a 6-3 record, while handing the Elite's eighth defeat in 10 games.

San Miguel had to do without Wells who had to rest due to a sprained ankle.

In the second game, Magnolia used a strong first half to extinguish Phoenix Pulse 97-81.

Romeo Travis had 20 points for the Hotshots who improved to 5-4.

Magnolia also got 17 and 15 points from Ian Sangalang ang Paul Lee, respectively, while newly acquired Chris Banchero chipped in 10 points.
