Officials of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) were impressed by the competition venues being put up for the coming 30th Southeast Asian Games which will be hosted by the country in November.

Team Philippines Chef de Mission William Ramirez along with Deputy Chefs de Mission Stephen Fernandez, Ramon Fernandez, Charles Maxey and Arnold Agustin inspected the venues in Subic, Zambales, and New Clark City to make sure that everything is in order for the regional event.

Among the venues they visited are Pacific Board Walk, Subic Covered Court Gym, Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center and the New Clark City.

“Maganda talaga. World-class construction. Happy that finally we have this kind of world class facility. So I guess it's now up to our athletes to live up to the expectations," Fernandez said in a Facebook video covering their visit.

Most of the venues are nearing completion.

The commissioners said they expect the venues, especially the Athletes Village, to benefit local athletes even after the games.

“Ang iniiwasan natin na we prevent these facilities to become white elephants at talagang maibigay sa mga atleta ang Athletes Village,” said Maxey.

“Definitely dapat talagang mga atleta natin ang makinabang dito... Our national athletes. This is what we have been dreaming of, na makaalis na sila sa Rizal Memorial Coliseum,” said Fernandez.

Agustin said the venues can also be used for future international meets.

“We meet the international requirements and we also have an Athletes Village. Makikita naman natin we have world-class facilities na magagamit natin in the future for international tournaments like Asian Games,” he said.
