MANILA, Philippines -- When Eumir Marcial needs to pump himself up ahead of a big fight, he listens to one artist -- Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao.
Marcial, one of two Filipino boxers who will compete in next year's Tokyo Olympics, idolizes Pacquiao so much that he is inspired not just by the fighting senator's achievements inside the ring, but even by his songs.
"Walang iba po, si Sir Senator Manny Pacquiao talaga," Marcial said on Tuesday's Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum, when asked who his boxing idol was.
Pacquiao, aside from being a boxer and a politician, also had an entertainment career, appearing on TV, films, and launching his own music. He released his first album in 2006, titled "Laban Nating Lahat Ito," which featured the single "Para Sa 'Yo ang Laban Na 'To."
The Pacman's songs are part of Marcial's pre-match playlist, as they hype him up in ways that no other songs can.
"Umiyak ako at tumataas 'yung morale ko," he added.
Marcial had signed with Pacquiao's MP Promotions outfit as a professional boxer, and he is hoping to get some advice and guidance from the "Pacman" himself as he embarks on the next step of his journey.
The young Filipino boxer said he hopes to hear from Pacquiao soon.
