Marinero snaps Che’Lu’s winning streak in PBA D-League

MANILA, Philippines – Marinerong Pilipino-TIP put an end to Che’Lu Bar & Grill’s five-game winning run in the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation cup on Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Engineers put together a 91-83 conquest of the Revellers, handing Che’Lu just its second loss of the conference while hiking their own record to 4-3.

Jorey Napoles and Robbie Manalang spearheaded the Engineers’ charge in the fourth quarter, as they held off the Revellers who had trimmed what was once a 17-point lead to just five, 74-69, with still 7:46 to go in the game.

The pair scored 11 straight points to put Marinero back in control, 85-69, midway through the final frame before repulsing Che’Lu’s last-ditch rally in the clutch.

Napoles finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Manalang made four three-pointers to finish with 19 points on top of five rebounds and four assists.

“We’ve talked about it na we want to be consistent in this,” said Marinero coach Koy Banal. “If we have to go through the eye of a needle, we’ll go through that, but we’ll take everybody with us. We’ll not leave anybody behind.”

Abu Tratter had a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Javi Gomez de Liaño, in his final game for Marinerong Pilipino, had 10 points.

Despite the result, Che’Lu remains in joint first place along with Go for Gold.

Jeff Viernes paced the Revellers with 19 points, three rebounds, and three assists, while new acquisition Levi Hernandez had nine points and two boards in his debut.
