MANILA, Philippines -- PacificTown-Army regained its winning ways in style, downing BaliPure in straight sets to bounce back in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Troopers claimed a 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 triumph to improve 4-3 in the conference, thus boosting their bid for a semifinal spot.

Army also kept BaliPure winless at 0-7.

It was a bounce-back victory for the Lady Troopers, who lost in five sets to Motolite last Sunday.

"Yun naman ang importante, after a loss, kung paano kami magre-recover," said Army coach Kungfu Reyes after the game. "It's a big win for us."

The Lady Troopers took the first two sets comfortably, although the Water Defenders pushed them towards the end of the second frame when BaliPure saved three set points to close in, 24-20.

But Olena Lymareva-Flink came to the rescue, uncorking a sharp crosscourt attack to life Army to a 2-0 lead.

Seeking to extend the match, BaliPure raced to a 3-0 lead in the third set, and were still ahead, 18-14, as Army's reception and floor defense wobbled.

Off a timeout by Reyes, the Lady Troopers regained their form, and won 11 of the last 14 points of the set. Their net defense held up against BaliPure, with Jovelyn Gonzaga rejecting Alex Vajdova for a 21-20 lead, before Sarah Gonzales scored an ace to make it 22-20.

The Water Defenders last threatened when Vajdova crushed a hit off the Arm blockers to make it 23-21, but Jenelle Jordan punched in a quick kill, then rejected Vajdova's hit in the final rally of the set to seal the win in an hour and 21 minutes.

"We're a little safe for this moment," Reyes said about their semis hopes. "We need to take one more win to secure the semifinals spot."

Lymareva-Flink had 15 points, and Jordan scored 11 as the Lady Troopers put up 42 kills against 33 for the Water Defenders.

Danijela Dzakovic scored 14 points, and Vajdova added 13 markers to lead the still winless BaliPure.
