MANILA, Philippines -- PBA commissioner Willie Marcial will have a dialogue with players on June 23 to gather feedback about the league's plans for resumption.
The PBA has submitted a set of protocols to the Inter-Agency Task Force and the Department of Health regarding their teams' return to practice, which includes mandatory testing for COVID-19.
The league anticipates a favorable response from the government agencies, with Marcial hoping that teams can begin practicing by July.
Before that, however, he will hold a "kamustahan" with the PBA players to check up on them and give them an avenue to ask questions regarding the league's plans.
"Magpapatawag ako ng two players per team," he explained in a press conference, Wednesday. "Kakausapin ko ang mga players, kakamustahin ko kung anong balita. Tanungan session rin 'yun na mangyayari sa June 23."
"Mag-uusap kami kung ano ba sa palagay niyo. May dialogue kami, kung ano ba sa tingin nila," he added.
According to PBA chairman Ricky Vargas, who represents TNT KaTropa, their players were "all excited to come back and work out."
Vice-chairman Bobby Rosales of Columbian Dyip said their players shared the same sentiment.
"We have regular workouts via Zoom, and everybody has been participating. I think… the players are raring to go also," he said.
On Twitter, San Miguel point guard Chris Ross advised caution, warning of the risks involved if they rushed to return.
"What’s the rush? No advancement scientifically for the virus. I wanna play ball and get back to work as bad as anyone out there but at what risk?" he said.
But Ross also expressed his belief that Marcial and the Board of Governors have the players' safety in mind
Vargas said that it will be up to each team to respond should a player decide not to participate in practices or workouts because of security and safety concerns.
"I think that will be left to the management of the team. That will be (on) the team rules, and be part of their decision on that," he said.
