MANILA, Philippines -- Unbeaten American boxer Terence Crawford is optimistic that he will get to fight Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao at some point, even if the current COVID-19 pandemic has made negotiations all the more difficult.

Crawford (36-0, 27 KOs) has made no secret of his desire to fight Pacquiao, in what will likely be the biggest payday of his professional boxing career. His promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank -- who also used to promote Pacquiao -- has already said that he was working on the bout before the coronavirus outbreak brought all sporting events to a halt.

According to a Boxing Scene report, Crawford's camp is still in contact with Arum and Pacquiao's team.

"They want to fight. We want the fight," said Crawford, who appeared on "The Ak And Barak Show."

"So basically, we're trying to figure out the money situation," he explained.

But because both parties want the bout to happen, Crawford is hopeful that things can be worked out when the global situation stabilizes. Arum is on record saying that the fight should be held outside the United States and the Philippines.

"I think that fight can get made, worked out however it will be," said Crawford, who also pointed out that he and Pacquiao are not the only boxers struggling to put a match together because of the pandemic.

"Every top fighter is dealing with the same issue. It's not like I'm the only one dealing with this," he said. "You know, when you look at all these other fighters and who they're gonna fight, how they're gonna get paid, that's the big dilemma right now."

"The fighters in England and overseas, they can't come over here to fight, so they're stuck over there," he added. "So how about them? So it's all messed up right now."

Crawford, who has won titles in three different weight divisions, last fought in December 2019 when he stopped Egidijus Kavaliauskas to retain the WBO welterweight championship. Pacquiao, meanwhile, is coming off a split decision victory over Keith Thurman in July 2019 that earned him the WBA "super" welterweight title.
