MANILA, Philippines -- Creamline star Alyssa Valdez expressed her gratitude to volleyball fans who continue to support them during the COVID-19 pandemic, as she and other athletes raise funds for various causes.

Valdez and her fellow volleyball stars have auctioned jerseys and other memorabilia to help raise money for frontliners and health care workers, and this weekend, they will hold a variety show online to generate more funds.

This time, the proceeds of the fundraiser will go to the day-to-day staff of the country's volleyball leagues who have been severely impacted by the pandemic. This includes the linesmen, referees, quick moppers, and table officials of the UAAP, Premier Volleyball League, and Philippine Superliga.

"May variety show (ang Volleyball Community Gives Back) this coming weekend," Valdez said during an appearance on "Umagang Kay Ganda" on Monday morning.

"Abangan niyo ang mga favorite volleyball players niyo, nakakatawa, maraming good vibes ang dala nitong show," Valdez promised.

The variety show, tabbed "Serve As One," will air on ABS-CBN Sports' platforms on YouTube and Facebook on June 5 and 6. Several volleyball stars, including Valdez herself, will make appearances, with UKG's Gretchen Ho among the hosts of the event.

"Alam natin na walang volleyball ngayon, as of now na nilu-look forward din ng mga tao. Pero patuloy pa rin silang sumusuporta sa atin kahit off the court, sa mga variety shows natin, sa mga raffles natin, sa mga jersey auctions natin," Valdez said.

"So maraming-maraming salamat po sa inyo. Dahil sa inyo, patuloy tayong nakakatulong sa mga frontiners and mga volleyball personnel," she added.

Valdez has made sure to keep herself fit even though the PVL has yet to announce its return date. She and the rest of the Cool Smashers work out together -- virtually -- every Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, in a bid to stay in touch while also staying active.

"May sine-send lang sa amin na program 'yung coach namin, but we do it all together. Para meron pa rin kaming interaction, kahit online, kahit virtual lang," said Valdez.

"Kasi for the longest time we see each other every morning, tapos ngayon for the past two months, parang nanibago kaming lahat. So we decided na magkaroon kami ng virtual na workout para at least nakikita namin ang isa't isa," she added.
