MANILA, Philippines – After a breakout campaign for Colegio de San Juan de Letran in 2019, point guard Fran Yu just has a few wishes for the new year.
"Sana, bigyan pa kami ng maraming blessings ni God, stay healthy sa family ko, at saka sana, mag-back-to-back din kami," Yu said in an appearance on "The Score" before the year turned.
"Malaki tsansa namin eh," he added.
Yu was integral to Letran's run to the NCAA Season 95 crown, which saw the Knights dethrone their bitter rivals, San Beda University, in three games. The diminutive guard earned Finals MVP honors after averaging 13.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals in the series.
Also appearing on "The Score" was former Letran captain Jerrick Balanza, who helped seal their title with a 27-point explosion in Game 3 of the series. Like Yu, he also wished for back-to-back titles for the Knights.
"History 'yun," said Balanza. "Ngayon lang ulit sa era ni Fran mangyayari 'yun."
The ever-confident Yu had no trouble in making a promise for his senior.
"Jerrick, nangangako kami na gagawin namin, para mag-back-to-back. Wala pong bawian," he said.
