DFA says 13 more Filipinos abroad positive for coronavirus; total now at 607

MANILA - The Philippines on Thursday reported that 13 more Filipinos abroad have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total tally of overseas infections among its nationals to 607.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) also said the virus killed 4 more overseas Filipinos, raising the death toll to 72 out of the 607 cases.

The number of recoveries also climbed by 7 to 171.

"We commit to continuing our efforts to attend to the needs of our land-based OFWs as well as our seafarers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic around the world," the DFA said in a statement.

As of Thursday, 364 of the identified cases are undergoing treatment for the disease, broken down as follows by regions: 167 in Europe, 94 in the Asia Pacific Region, 57 in the Middle East and Africa, and 46 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, the confirmed COVID-19 cases breached Thursday the 4,000-mark. Of the total 4,076 infections that have been recorded, 203 patients succumbed to the disease while 124 recovered.
