MANILA -- The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday said it recorded already 2 deaths of Filipinos abroad due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
A DFA report showed that the second death was recorded in a country in the Asia Pacific region. It has yet to give further details about the fatalities.
DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez said a total of 172 Filipinos abroad were found positive for the disease, of whom 90 recovered and 80 are undergoing treatment.
The highest number of cases is recorded from the Asia Pacific region with 112, of whom 86 have recovered or were discharged, 25 are undergoing treatment, while 1 died.
There are 22 cases in Europe, with 19 undergoing treatment, 2 recoveries, and 1 death.
In the Americas, 20 cases were recorded, all still undergoing treatment.
The Middle East has 18 cases of coronavirus-positive Filipinos, with 16 undergoing treatment and 2 recoveries.
In the Philippines, the health department has recorded a total of 636 COVID-19 cases, as of Wednesday, including 38 fatalities and 26 recoveries.
