DIGOS CITY - The Chinese consulate in Davao City and members of Filipino-Chinese associations have given more than 4,000 bags of relief goods to residents of the city affected by powerful quakes that struck Mindanao last month.
Each of the relief packs contained 5 kilos of rice, hygiene kits, canned goods and noodles.
Chinese consul Li Lin said the aid was a way to sympathize with earthquake victims.
"We will try our best to do whatever we can in our own capacity to help the earthquake-affected areas and people, and I believe we have a very good cooperation with the very efficient local government officials," said Li.
Digos City Mayor Josef Cagas said that aside from food packs, China has also pledged to support the rehabilitation of damaged structures, sewage and water systems in Digos. They will also give medical assistance.
Li said the China would also give assistance to other quake-hit municipalities in Davao del Sur.
Last week, China announced it was donating 3 million RMB or around P22 million to Mindanao as the southern regions reeled from the earthquakes, where several were killed and dozens hurt.
