MANILA - All 12 crew members were rescued after Boracay-bound transport vessel sank off the Caticlan coast in Malay, Aklan Sunday morning, the Philippine Coast Guard said.
Capt. Armand Balilo, Coast Guard spokesperson, said the LCT Bato Twin vessel was observed to be half-submerged in the area at around 10:25 a.m.
Balilo said the vessel, carrying sand and gravel, was navigating from Sambiray port in Malay to Barangay Manoc-Manoc in Boracay Island at the time.
He said Coast Guard assets were promptly deployed to rescue the crew before the ship eventually sank. The cause of the ship's sinking is still undetermined.
"Further information also states that said LCT is carrying diesel as its fuel. It's already okay, the only problem is the oil, but it seemed okay, there is no (spill). It's carrying diesel," Balilo added.
