Quake-hit Kidapawan evacuates families amid fears of landslide

COTABATO—Hundreds of families in Kidapawan City, Cotabato were forced to evacuate on Tuesday due to risk of landslides following a 6.6-magnitude earthquake that rocked southern Mindanao.

Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista said these families reside in the villages of Balabag ang Ilomavis, which are situated in the foot of Mt. Apo.

He also appealed for help for the affected residents who are currently staying in temporary shelters, such as tents.

Local authorities discovered that some portion of the hills in 2 villages had collapsed, fearing of a major landslide.

The Kidapawan City government will also inspect the structural integrity of some buildings, including schools and hospitals.

Two people were reported injured in the city, where the power situation is now back to normal.—Report from Dennis Datu, ABS-CBN News
