MANILA- Senior citizens in the Philippine capital will soon receive a cash gift on their birthday following a new city ordinance.
Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday signed City Ordinance No. 8570 granting an P800 birthday gift for the elderly of the city starting next year.
He also noted that the capital's elderly will also receive birthday cakes, an idea that Moreno admitted he copied from neighboring Makati City.
"If Makati can do it, why not Manila?" Moreno said during the signing of the ordinance.
"I hope you don't get a bad impression of me copying things, at ako naman hindi mahihiya mangopya ng mangopya," he said.
(I won't be ashamed of copying and copying.)
Senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and solo parents in the capital are also entitled to a P500 monthly allowance from the city government that they can withdraw using a provided cash card.
