MANILA - Airport authorities on Thursday morning apprehended a male passenger who made a bomb joke while boarding a Philippine Airlines flight bound for Cotabato City at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

PAL said a media group who happened to be in the area reported the bomb joke to the flight crew, who in turn reported the incident to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group.

Passengers of PAL Flight PR2959 were forced to disembark the plane for inspection after the bomb joke was reported, delaying the flight.

"PAL apologizes for the inconvenience to the rest of the passengers, who had to disembark so that authorities could inspect the aircraft thoroughly," the airline said.

Under the law, a person who makes a bomb joke at the airport may be penalized with a fine of over P40,000 and/or a jail term of more than 5 years, depending on the court's decision.

PAL also reminded all passengers to refrain from making any jokes about bombs and security threats as authorities take them seriously.
