MANILA - The House of Representatives confirmed Tuesday that two staff members working at the lower chamber contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
This brings the number of infected personnel in the lower chamber to 16, House Secretary General Atty. Jose Luis G. Montales told reporters.
Montales said the first additional case is a Congressional staffer who reported for work on July 2, and briefly went to their office on July 6.
There, he interacted "only with his principal and co-staff members."
The second additional case is a security staff member who suffered from renal problems. The staffer last reported for work on March 12, 2020, Montales said.
"Let’s pray for the speedy recovery of our confirmed cases and the well-being of their families," he said.
The House of Representatives has implemented stringent physical distancing protocols to control the spread of COVID-19 among its ranks.
It has also changed workflows to allow for virtual sessions and work-from-home protocols to minimize face-to-face interactions.
