MANILA -- Security footage obtained from ABS-CBN sources on Sunday shows the fatal ambush on Trece Martires Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan of Cavite province, the third city official killed in less than a week.

The video shows Lubigan and 4 companions getting into a sports utility vehicle outside the Korean-Philippines Hospital in his town on Saturday afternoon.

Unidentified gunmen aboard another SUV then opened fire on Lubigan's vehicle, which maneuvered forward but rammed into an oncoming car.

The assailants' SUV sped away as Lubigan's vehicle moved back to its initial position.

The 44-year-old Lubigan, who was in the passenger seat, died on the spot. His bodyguard was also killed.

“Nagko-conduct tayo ng review ng CCTV para ma-trace ang suspect. Iniikutan din namin ang mga lugar na posibleng puntahan nila,” said Supt. Reynan Patam, acting chief of the Trece Martires police.

(We are conducting a review of the CCTV to trace the suspect. We are patrolling the areas where they could have gone.)

Lubigan's remains were awaiting autopsy at the Valdez Funeral Homes in the city. His family, staff members and supporters spent the night there on Saturday.

The Lubigan family declined an interview. They would give a statement at the proper time, said the vice mayor's younger brother Kim.

Lubigan's 2 other bodyguards, who were seated at the back of the SUV survived the attack, but one of them is still in critical condition.

Police were not aware of any threats to the vice mayor’s life before his assassination, said Patam.

The Cavite police has formed a special investigation task group to look into the killing.

Lubigan's death followed the slay of 2 mayors in Batangas and Nueva Ecija earlier this week.

Tanauan Mayor Antonio Halili of Batangas was shot dead last Monday during a flag ceremony. The gunman was supposedly perched on a grassy area near the crime scene.

General Tinio Mayor Ferdinand Bote of Nueva Ecija was shot at close range by unidentified gunmen a day after.
