MANILA - The House of Representatives on Thursday reported an additional case of COVID-19, bringing the tally of confirmed infected workers in the chamber to 10.

House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales identified the patient as a congressional staffer who last visited the chamber on May 21.

"Let’s pray for the recovery of our 3 positive cases and the safety of their families," he said in a statement.

The House confirmed its 8th coronavirus case on June 27, followed by another case on July 1.

The new infections come as lawmakers are mulling over proposals for President Rodrigo Duterte's annual State of the Nation Address, which takes place traditionally every 4th Monday of July at the Batasang Pambansa.

These include holding the address at the Batasang Pambansa without guests and 2 other plans where the President will deliver his speech via videoconferencing, senators earlier said.

The Philippines has so far recorded 38,805 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. The tally includes 1,274 fatalities and 10,673 recoveries.
