31 barangays in Manila to be placed under 48-hour lockdown this weekend

MANILA - The local government of Manila City on Tuesday announced it will be placing 31 of its barangays under a 48-hour enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in said areas.

Through Executive Order No. 31, Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso is placing the identified 31 barangays under hard lockdown from 12 a.m. of Saturday, July 4, until 11:59 p.m. of Sunday, July 5, "for purposes of disease surveillance, verification or testing and rapid risk assessment".

The Manila Health Department said there are a total of 147 positive COVID-19 cases in the said barangays.

The barangays placed under ECQ are as follows:

District 1

Of all the barangays, Barangay 343 in District 3 logged the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 13, followed by Barangay 20 in District 1 with 10 cases.

During the said period, residents of these barangays are required to be strictly confined within their residences, except for health workers, police, military and government workers rendering emergency frontline services, service workers, barangay officials and media workers.

"Station commanders of police stations in the said barangays are hereby directed to employ and deploy officers and personnel in strategic locations and areas necessary for the effective implementation of the ECQ," Domagoso's order reads.
