CEBU CITY - Lawyers for a Bohol board member accused of killing his mayor wife are considering asking the courts to consolidate the cases filed against him.
Such a move would lessen the security risks against Board Member Niño Rey Boniel, said his lawyer, Gerry Carillo.
Boniel, the primary suspect in the killing of Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel, is facing charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention before the Talibon regional trial court. A separate parricide complaint is pending before the Lapu-Lapu City prosecutor's office.
The board member is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday.
The mayor's remains have not been found, but authorities said search operations would resume on Tuesday.
Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, the Central Visayas police chief, dared defense lawyers to prove their claim that Mayor Boniel was still alive.
Carillo said last week he received reports that the mayor was hiding abroad.
