ILIGAN CITY – The wife of Pantao Ragat Mayor Lacson Lantud said the recent ambush on her husband is politically motivated.
Eleanor Lantud on Monday visited the wounded victims in the ambush which happened Sunday in Barangay Cabasagan, Pantao Ragat town.
Among those wounded were PO1 Hamza Mangonte, Pantao Ragat Councilor Acmad Magomnang and West Poblacion Chairman Farmon Macarimbang.
Eleanor said they are now in stable condition after sustaining gunshot wounds.
“Okay lahat sila ngayon, stable na lalo na 'yung councilor namin," she said.
(They are now in stable condition, including our councilor.)
The family is also convinced that the ambush which targeted Mayor Lantud is politically motivated.
Mayor Lantud was unharmed but the crime left four of his companions dead.
“Sa ngayon bale alam na namin anong dahilan. It’s because of politics at saka dahil sa paghihigpit ni Mayor dahil sa mga droga so isa din 'yan sa anggulo kaya siya pinag-initan ng mga tao," Eleanor added.
(We know it's because of politics and because of Mayor's anti-drug policy, it's also one of the motives behind the incident.)
The family refused to name the suspect behind the crime but guaranteed that they will file a case.
Meanwhile, Police Senior Superintendent Leony Roy Ga of the Iligan City Police Office said they will continue to strengthen the implementation of checkpoints along the boundaries of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur to deter lawless elements from entering the city.
