CALAPE – Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on Wednesday arrived at the wake of a policeman slain in the Inabanga clash.
The remains of PO2 Rey Anthony Nazareno were lying in state at his home in Barangay Ulbohan, Calape, Bohol.
During his visit, Dela Rosa spoke privately with Nazareno’s parents, and later presented to them a Medalya ng Kagitingan (Medal of Valor), for their son’s sacrifice.
Aside from the medal, Dela Rosa gave money to the slain policeman’s parents for the burial of Nazareno.
Dela Rosa said Nazareno’s service and heroism for his country serves as an example for other police officers.
Nazareno was killed during a firefight with members of the Abu Sayyaf Group in Sitio Ylaya, Barangay Napu in Inabanga, Bohol. The bandits had allegedly planned to kidnap tourists in Bohol.
Delo Rosa said President Rodrigo Duterte planned to visit the wake of Nazareno, but was unable to make it because of time constraints and prior appointments.
Duterte extended his condolences to the Nazareno family through Dela Rosa.
The Palace has also sent flowers to the policeman's wake.
