MANILA - Dole Food Company on Wednesday said it has heeded the call of a netizen who earlier demanded to receive P5,000 from the fruit company, thinking it was the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Instead of giving cash, Dole gave the Facebook user "more than P5,000 worth of products," the global fruit products company said in a Facebook post.
"He may not have gotten the money yet from the Department of Labor and Employment, but he received more than P5,000 worth of products for brightening up everyone's day with his viral post," Dole said.
"After all, we believe health is more important than money these days," it said.
Netizens lauded the deed, with some saying that they should start their own Dole-related post in hopes of receiving a similar treat.
The Philippines' Labor department has promised to grant cash aid for workers who may have lost their jobs due to the nearly 2-month long Luzon lockdown.
As of April 3, the Labor authority has remitted P441.94 million to 88,388 formal sector workers, and disbursed another P174.58 million to 55,934 informal sector workers, according to President Rodrigo Duterte's second weekly report to Congress.
