MANILA - Police on Wednesday filed criminal charges against a security guard who took hostage dozens of people inside a shopping mall in San Juan City.

Alchie Paray is facing complaints of frustrated murder, serious illegal detention, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and illegal possession of explosive and incendiary device.

He is detained at the San Juan City Police Station.

Paray was arrested after he held hostage at least 40 people inside Greenhills Shopping Center on Monday.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora earlier said the suspect never asked for money in exchange for the release of the hostages.

Paray rejected a P1 million offer from his security agency as he only wanted to air his grievances surrounding the unfair treatment of the mall's security officials to security guards.
