ZAMBOANGA CITY - Authorities arrested an alleged member of terror group Abu Sayyaf (ASG) at the Zamboanga Port Authority Compound on Friday morning.

Benhajar Salapuddin Alan was arrested for murder.

Police said he was a member of ASG in Sulu under the group's deceased senior leader Albader Parad. He was also allegedly one of the negotiators of the ASG kidnap-for-ransom group in Sulu province.

Authorities also said Alan is the primary suspect in the killing of Joemer Hashim Jawadin in 2015 in Zamboanga City.

The Sulu Police Provincial Office said the alleged Abu Sayaff member is also involved in illegal drugs and gun for hire activities in Zamboanga City and Sulu.

He was recently tagged in the killing of Police Lt. Sali Salim, a team leader of Sulu anti-illegal drug unit, during a police operation in Barangay Tagbak in Indanan town, Sulu last Jan. 12.

Police Brig Gen. Marni C Marcos Jr., director of Bangsamoro Autonomous Regional Police Office, thanked members of the Tausug community who provided information to the police regarding the presence of ASG and other lawless groups in their community.

Alan is now under the custody of authorities in Zamboanga City.
