MANILA - An employee of the Department of the Interior and Local Government was arrested for an alleged joke bomb ahead of a summit of barangay leaders attended by President Rodrigo Duterte in Pasay City on Tuesday.
Suspect Elsie Castillo, a DILG operations officer, allegedly told two police officers in jest to inspect her bag thoroughly because it contained a bomb, investigators said.
The incident occurred before the President arrived at the Cuneta Astrodome for the Barangay Summit on Peace and Order.
Making bomb jokes or spreading false information concerning bombs is illegal under Presidential Decree No. 1727.
People found guilty of the offense can face imprisonment of up to 5 years and/or a fine of up to P40,000.
