The world's oldest Chinatown welcomed the Chinese New Year with the traditional pomp and revelry to usher in the year of the "metal rat."

The threat of the new coronavirus spreading in China and other Asian countries did not deter visitors from flocking to Binondo, Manila, in the most important event on the Chinese calendar. A few were seen wearing protective masks, but a large majority just reveled in the event marked by dragon and lion dances on the streets and a few fireworks believed to drive away bad spirits and bring in good fortune.

Here are a few images of the celebration.
