Catriona Gray was "overflowing with gratitude" as she ended her reign as Miss Universe in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday (Manila time).
The Filipina beauty queen passed on the Miss Universe title to Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa after her emotional final walk in a blue Mak Tumang dress.
Gray took to Instagram to congratulate Tunzi, saying she is looking forward to what the latter will do during her reign.
"Congratulations to our new Miss Universe!" she said, tagging Tunzi's account. "Excited to see what you will do with this amazing platform!"
In another post on Monday, Gray expressed her gratitude to "every single person who has taken part" in her journey as Miss Universe.
"This year as Miss Universe, in meeting inspiring people and working with amazing organizations, I've had so many of those moments that have made me feel that I'm where I'm meant to be. It has been such an honor. Thank you," she said.
Gray is the Philippines' fourth Miss Universe winner, after Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Margie Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969).
The country's representative in Miss Universe this year, Gazini Ganados, finished in the Top 20 and won best in national costume.
