MANILA -- When Pope John Paul II visited the Philippines in 1995 for World Youth Day, he was welcomed by the Catholic faithful with a song titled "Tell the World of His Love."
Fast forward to 2020, "Tell the World of His Love" gets an update for its 25th anniversary, with the song now used to pay tribute to frontliners and volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Composer Trina Belamide added new lyrics "to make the song more relevant to these times."
The new version of "Tell the World of His Love" now includes the lines: "And in these troubled times / Of hopelessness and of fear / May we all find comfort / In knowing he is near."
"May the hungry, the sick, and the poor / Be blessed day by day / And know the love of the Father through / Those who walk in his ways."
"My friends from the Mass Appeal Choir thought it would be a great idea to celebrate this milestone by using this song to pay tribute to frontliners and volunteers who have, through their good works, managed to tell the world of His love. In other words, help us feel the presence of God during these difficult times," Belamide said in a video posted on her Facebook page early this week.
"We are launching a new version of the song and a video as well that captures the journey of the song from World Youth Day 1995 all the way to present," she added.
The 2020 version of "Tell the World of His Love" was released online on Friday, featuring a performance by the Mass Appeal Choir.
