MANILA -- To celebrate International Women’s Day, Edsa Shangri-La held an exclusive ladies-only event dubbed Come Away with Chi for the second straight year.
“We wanted to take the opportunity of International Women’s Day to create total and wellness well-being experience for women. Just to rest, which is crucial in this today’s life… bonding with other women, and learning with other women,” Anna Rose Manalo, director of events management for Edsa Shangri-La, explained.
Wellness was the theme of the day.
Doctors and wellness advocates had interactive sessions with topics of interest to women with celebrity doctor Vicki Belo candidly talking about aging and the different technologies available in treating and rejuvenating our skin.
Dr. Mae Syki-Young tackled women’s fertility health, followed by the Chi, The Spa director, Angel Pangilinan who shared the practice of mindfulness in times of crisis.
Dietician and nutritionist Chesire Que also revealed the healing wonders of hydro therapy to end the session.
After a tour of the spa’s facilities, including demonstrations and limited trials of popular treatments like the ultrasonic hydrotherapy spa and new Hammam treatment (Turkish steam bath), guests had the choice to stretch in bliss with a sunset yoga session by Yoga Manila, have a quick sketch portrait done of themselves, or lie comfortably on poolside daybeds.
This writer picked the latter option, which proved most satisfying for the tummy, as guests were served an unending assortment of delectable canapes from executive chef Scott Brands’ kitchen like refreshing watermelon and pineapple skewers, filling crab and mango maki, crispy and cheesy arancini osso buco balls, among other savory finger-food.
Those with a sweet tooth, meanwhile, could have multiple servings of mini cream puffs, passionfruit crème brulee cups, and bites of crunchy pistachio biscotti, all the while sipping on a variety of libations from cocktails, fruit-infused water, to kombucha-powered cups.
Coupled with the cold afternoon breeze and the soothing musical stylings of multi-instrumentalist band Manila Sky, guests were truly relaxed and refreshed.
