MANILA – Many Filipinos expressed their concern for Heart Evangelista amid reports that a Vietnamese heiress has contracted the novel coronavirus after attending fashion week shows.
According to a report by South China Morning Post, 27-year-old Nga Nguyen tested positive for COVID-19 after gracing luxury catwalk shows in Milan and Paris.
This prompted Filipino fans to check on Evangelista, a local style icon who is known for attending similar events and documenting them in her vlogs, via Twitter.
She responded on Monday, assuring the public that she skipped attending fashion week events early this year.
“For those of you asking or concerned, I’ve decided last January to cancel all of my fashion week trips for safety reasons. That’s why I was absent during fashion week,” she said.
“I pray for everyone’s safety. God bless us all,” she added.
COVID-19 has killed nearly 4,000, with more than 110,000 cases recorded in over 100 territories, according to a tally by Agence France-Presse.
The Philippines has so far confirmed 24 cases of the respiratory disease, including one fatality.
