MANILA – The upcoming University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Arts and Culture Festival will commemorate the 50th year of the First Quarter Storm (FQS), one of the events that led to the declaration of Martial Law in the country.
The festival will run from February to April 2020 with the theme “Makita Kang Sakdal Laya” as it shines the spotlight on the importance of activism amid corruption and oppression.
Activities scheduled during the three-month period range from musical performances to art installations and a public forum.
Considered one of the most important parts of the Philippines’ history, the FQS is a series of protests by student activists against then President Ferdinand Marcos from January to March 1970.
A bloodless uprising dubbed as “People Power Revolution” toppled the Marcos dictatorship in February 1986.
