MANILA—She has yet to take flight as the iconic superheroine "Darna," but Jane De Leon has already soared to the top of Google search.
The fresh-faced Kapamilya star, who set the Internet abuzz after bagging the coveted role previously played by Vilma Santos and Angel Locsin, was the Philippines' most searched female celebrity in 2019.
Socialite-actress Gretchen Barretto came in second in the list of trending searches, which was released by the tech giant on Thursday.
Gretchen made headlines this year following a public feud with her sister Marjorie that ended up into a scuffle at their father's wake.
Marjorie, who went live on national television to explain the controversy that beset their family, clocked in at number 4 on the list.
Another member of the Barretto clan, Julia, was also among the most Googled female celebrities, landing in at number 6.
Julia got embroiled in the breakup controversy of fellow Star Magic talents Bea Alonzo and Gerald Anderson.
Meanwhile, beauty queens Gazini Ganados and Catriona Gray ranked third and fifth in the search platform, respectively.
Ganados went on to compete this year in the Miss Universe pageant and secured a top 20 finish.
Gray, the country's fourth titleholder in the renowned beauty contest, passed her crown to South Africa's Zozibini Tunzi.
Completing the list are singer Billie Eilish (No. 7), model-actress Jelai Andres (No. 8), "Captain Marvel" star Brie Larson (No. 9) and Naomi Scott (No. 10), who played Princess Jasmine from the live-action remake of "Aladdin."
