MANILA -- Music superstars Sarah Geronimo and Regine Velasquez surprised their fans on Sunday with a joint performance that saw a departure from their respective signature genres.
During the live episode of “ASAP Natin ‘To,” the two performed a mashup of “Hallelujah” by Bamboo, and “Sirena” by Gloc-9 and Ebe Dancel.
Velasquez, known for her soaring ballads, embraced the rock roots of “Hallelujah” as the stripped-down rendition approached its explosive chorus.
Geronimo, meanwhile, drew applause as she flawlessly rapped the parts of Gloc-9 in the “Sirena” duet, surprising even her loyal “Popsters” with her confidence in spitting the verses.
The mashup was the second joint number of Velasquez and Geronimo in the revamped “ASAP Natin ‘To.” The collaboration between the two singers, who trace their close relationship to the 2003 TV contest “Star for a Night” which Velasquez hosted and Velasquez won, had been long anticipated by OPM fans.
With Velasquez’s transfer to ABS-CBN in October, that dream finally came true for both performers and their respective followers.
