MANILA -- When the creepy trailer for "The Heiress" dropped last week, one of the questions many fans had, other than whether Janella Salvador's character will survive her demon-possessed aunt, was when is it hitting cinemas? The release date was withheld for some reason.

Now, we know why.

On Thursday, its director, Frasco Mortiz ("Pagpag"), revealed that "The Heiress" was submitted for consideration to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

If it had made the cut, then that meant a Christmas Day release date. Unfortunately, it did not, as moviegoers found out Thursday when the "Magic 8" were confirmed, hence its now November 27 premiere.

"The Heiress" also stars Maricel Soriano as Luna (Maricel Soriano), a "mambabarang," or a powerful demon sorceress, who will stop at nothing to greedily keep to herself her young niece, Guia (Salvador).
