MANILA — Aside from being able to inspire amid the coronavirus pandemic, Gary Valenciano also raised over P1 million for communities worst-hit by the health crisis through a virtual concert Thursday.

Valenciano was the latest in the dozens-long list of artists who are lending their voice to "Bayanihan, Musikahan," an online concert series that aims to raise funds for frontline workers and families whose livelihood have been affected by the lockdowns.

Throughout his nearly three-hour show on Thursday night, Valenciano admitted being emotional numerous times as he spoke of the challenges brought about by the pandemic, and of the faith that's been reinforced because of them.

With a setlist comprised of inspirational tunes, Valenciano urged his viewers to draw strength from their faith, as he has during this time of anxiety and uncertainties.

Among the songs he performed were "Lead Me Lord," "No Mountain Too High," "Could You Be Messiah?", "That's Why," "When I Hear You Call," "Shout for Joy," and "Take Me Out of the Dark."

He also sang a number of his hits, including "How Did You Know," "Gaya ng Dati," and "The Warrior is a Child."

In a format that allows a raw, unedited look into a musician's personal space, Valenciano had several candid moments, from being apologetic about a tired voice, to checking his blood sugar and administering insulin.

Between performances, Valenciano gave updates on the progress of donations that came in during his show. By its end, Valenciano's concert raised over P1 million, prompting him to hold back tears.

Ending the three-hour stream, Valenciano invited his viewers to join him in prayer.
