Ernest Leung, former Finance secretary, passes away

Former Finance secretary Ernest Leung passed away on Friday, Carlos Dominguez, the department's current head, confirmed.

Dominguez said Leung, 80, died of malaria, which he contracted during a trip in Papua New Guinea.

Leung was Finance secretary from 1993 to 1994 under former President Fidel Ramos.

He was also a former president of the Philippine Stock Exchange and executive director of the World Bank.
