One of the most worrisome consequences of the community quarantine has been the disruption of local food supply chains. At the height of the lockdown, farmers were stuck with mountains of fruits and vegetables they couldn’t bring to market, while restaurants scrambled in search of suppliers who could pass through checkpoints to deliver goods. While restrictions have eased since then, farmers and fisherfolk continue to face challenges to get their goods to consumers.

That’s where Resto PH, SM Supermalls, and the Department of Agriculture (DA) have come in to launch the very first Farmers’ Produce to be held this July 3 to 5 from 10 am to 8 pm at the Skypark Lawn (Level 5) of SM Aura Premier in Bonifacio Global City.

This weekend market is a venue for farmers and fisherfolk to sell their produce directly to consumers as well as to the restaurant industry at large. During the signing ceremony, DA Secretary William Dar pronounced, “This win-win solution will immensely help us reboot the economy, demonstrating the need to strengthen our food production and distribution systems during crisis and non-crisis situations.”

Resto PH is a brand new organization of restaurant owners that was formed during the COVID-19 crisis. Farmer’s Produce marks its first large-scale project, and shows how crucial the connection is between the restaurant sector and the agricultural industry. For this project, several Resto PH members will be creating special menus using the farmers’ produce.

SM Aura Premier is providing space free of charge for farmers to sell their produce. The public is assured of a safe market experience as SM Supermalls practices the necessary health and safety protocols in all its malls.
