A low pressure area off Luzon's eastern coast is unlikely to hit land or intensify into a storm, the state weather bureau said Tuesday.

Spotted 970 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan at 3 a.m., the weather system is expected to dissipate in the next 2 or 3 days, PAGASA meteorologist Benison Estareja told radio DZMM.

However, localized thunderstorms may bring cloudy skies and rains over Metro Manila and the rest of the country in the afternoon or evening, he said.

PAGASA last week said the "habagat" season or the southwest monsoon has officially ended and cool weather associated with the holidays is on its way.

Two or 3 more storms are expected to enter the country before the year ends, the agency said.
