WATCH: Gina Lopez's last message to environment crusaders
Philanthropist Gina Lopez had urged environmental crusaders to keep their love for the country, some 2 weeks before her passing, a green advocate that she had worked with said Tuesday.
The Green Thumb Coalition, organized by Lopez in 2015, had sent her a video message in which they sang "I believe I Can Fly," one of her favorite songs, said Jaybee Garganera, national coordinator of Alyansa Tigil Mina.
"I can feel the heart and I can feel the light. Trust me on this, if you have love, you can make this country move forward. Do not ever lose that love," Lopez was quoted as replying by Garganera.
"Palagay ko dala-dala namin lahat iyun, para dire-diretso lang tayo sa pagbabagong gusto n'ya," he told radio DZMM anchor Ted Failon.
(I think we will carry all of that, so that we can continue the change she wanted.)
Failon said Lopez also sent him a text message from her sickbed, which read, "When you fight for what is right, you give our people hope. It's the best social service."
Lopez, former Environment secretary and long-time chairperson of the ABS-CBN Foundation Inc., passed away on Monday due to multiple organ failure. She was 65.
In lieu of flowers and mass cards, her family requests that donations be made to the ABS-CBN Foundation. There will be a public viewing at the La Mesa Eco Park on Aug. 22 to 23.
