MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte will raise the arbitral ruling, the South China Sea code and possible joint exploration for oil and gas when he meets with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, his spokesman said Monday.

Duterte will also raise the increasing presence of Chinese ships in Philippine waters, as among "irritants" in the two countries' relations, Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

"I feel that since we’re friends, any issue can be discussed and threshed out," Panelo told ANC's Headstart.

Panelo said the President did not say if he would discuss the recent incident in Recto Bank (Reed Bank), where a Chinese ship rammed into a Filipino boat and left its crew at sea, and Chinese workers in offshore gaming operations in the Philippines.

China's Embassy in Manila earlier called on the Filipino government to "punish" casinos and Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs) that illegally employ Chinese nationals.
