Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is considering tapping waste to energy technology to help rid the city of garbage.

"I like the idea. It's clean and gives power to the community," he told ANC's Headstart, saying he already talked to two proponents.

"But first things first, ayoko ng basura sa kalsada because this would generate more problems, sanitation...so 'yun muna kasi this can be planned," he added.

On his first day of office, 20 truckloads of garbages were removed from what he called the new Smokey Mountain located in Liwasang Bonifacio.

He also warned two garbage contractors in Manila that he is watching them.

"Pag igihan ninyo. Never ever sabotage this administration. I will recognize and respect a valid contract but violation of provisions of it that affects the general welfare of our citizens, hahabulin ko kayo," he said.

Meanwhile, the new city mayor thanked the Department of Public Works and Highways for helping improve pipes around the city to reduce flooding especially during the rainy season.

"But Manila geographically speaking, is below sea level so maaring magkaroon pa rin ng baha. Ang pangarap ko, pag tigil ng ulan, dapat humupa na," he said.
