Two gunmen who shot dead a businessman in Tondo, Manila last week are not members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, its head said Monday.

Surveillance footage shows the motorcycle-riding gunmen wearing shirts stamped with the word "PDEA" as they trailed the SUV of businessman Melchor Almazan, 48, along Rodriguez Extension last Friday. The gunmen then shot at the victim and carted off some of his belongings.

The shirt worn by the gunmen were green, but the official PDEA uniform is a mix of green and black, said agency chief Aaron Aquino.

"Hindi namin ahente [iyan] dahil hindi iyan ang uniporme na ginagamit namin," he told radio DZMM.

"Ang mga kriminal talaga ganyan ang gagawin. Even sa police uniform ganyan ang ginagawa nila," he added.

(Those were not our agents because that's not our uniform. Criminals have done that. They do that even to police uniforms.)

PDEA will nonetheless cooperate with any probe, Aquino said.

Police were investigating whether or not the victim had enemies or was involved in the narcotics trade.
