The public should expect hot and humid weather Thursday afternoon that could be dampened by thunderstorms by evening, a state meteorologist said.

PAGASA weather forecaster Ariel Rojas said a high pressure area is confining winds from the southwest to the West Philippine Sea instead of sweeping over the country.

"Buong bansa po makakaranas ng ganyang panahon, mainit lalo na sa bandang tanghali at hapon; tapos late afternoon at early evening po, mga thunderstorm," he told radio DZMM.

(The whole country will experience hot weather especially around noon and the afternoon; followed by thunderstorms by late afternoon or early evening.)

The temperature in Metro Manila is expected to peak at 35 degrees Celsius, while the heat index or temperature as felt by the human body could reach 40 degrees Celsius, said Rojas.
