The Manila International Airport Authority on Sunday urged travelers to be at airports 3 hours before their flight in anticipation of the Holy Week rush.

Authorities are implementing "more rigorous" security checks and lines have started to become longer at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, said MIAA general manager Ed Monreal.

Monreal said he has instructed airport officers to be "proactive" in directing passenger traffic.

"So far, everything is moving in the right direction," he told radio DZMM.

MIAA also expects new x-ray equipment to help speed up lines in September, he said.
